Juniperus communis
Juniper’s medicinal
properties are known since ancient times. This evergreen tree with berrylike
cones that flavor gin and Chartreuse
is mentioned in therapeutic recipes found on egyptian papyri that date back to
1550 B.C.
This detoxifying and diuretic
plant is mainly used to stimulate the kidneys in conditions like gout,
rheumatisms, cystitis, skin problems and cellulite. It encourages excretion of
uric acid and toxins, and is considered a tonic to the nervous and digetive
systems. Juniper also acts as an antiseptic for the lungs, the blood, and the
respiratory, digestive and urinary systems. Rich in vitamin C.
Indications :
Urinary
ailments, infection or inflammation of the bladder, kidney stones, hypertension,
arteriosclerosis, PMS, inflammation, flatulence, poor digestion, lack of
appetite, gout, rheumatisms, arthritis, diabetes, painful, lack of or irregular
menstruations, leucorrhea, acne, eczema, cellulite, colic and flatulence.
Caution : Not to be used :
·
for long periods of time (do not exceed 6 weeks at a
time, as it could irritate the kidneys) ;
·
in the presence of an acute infection or inflammation
of the kidneys or kidney damage ;
·
in pregnancy (could stimulate uterine contractions).
